About erika cable

I was born and raised in Hertfordshire and my interest in art began in my childhood. From school I went on to study Graphic Design for four years and then illustration and life drawing at Chelsea College. Later I studied post grad Art Therapy at the University of Hertfordshire. In 2005 I began to develop an interest in photography and have been experimenting to find a style that works for me.

My work uses a mixture of encaustic art and photographic images which are then combined on the computor.

Encaustic Art is one of the earlist forms of art, meaning the painting of melted wax. The richness of wax creates vibrant colour and texture, which when combined with photographs producess what I call expressions of the world and what is contained in the world.

Wildlife, nature and landscape have been big influences within my work. In particular, more recently PENGUINS.

The list of artists who I have admired and been inspired by is endless but include:
Caravaggio, Van Gogh, Frances Bacon and Salvador Dali, -illustrators Chris Burke and Dereck Bacon, Michael Bossom(encaustic art), Nick Cable, Andy Rouse and Chris Packam(photographers) and Park Street Camera Club, also Bill Oddie, Kate Humble and Simon King for making nature and wildlife exciting.
